Invasion 1997 plot summary
Can the wounded Kiwis exact some revenge? GTĬricket: England v South Africa Sky Cricket, 1.30pm England, if they haven’t already, can book their place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-finals today, as they face South Africa in the UAE. Sunday sees Australia facing Scotland at Murrayfield (Amazon Prime, 2.15pm) and the lip-smacking rematch between England Women and New Zealand Women in Northampton (BBC Two, 2.20pm), following the Red Roses’ crushing defeat of the Black Ferns last weekend. Rugby union: Ireland v Japan Channel 4, 12.30pm The Autumn Internationals continue, with the ever-popular Cherry Blossoms visiting the Aviva Stadium in Dublin today, before England host Tonga at Twickenham (Amazon Prime Video, 3.15pm) and Wales take on Lions-taming South Africa in Cardiff (Amazon Prime, 5.30pm). Meanwhile, England can all but secure their place at the 2022 World Cup on Friday, should they beat Albania at Wembley (ITV, 7pm). Speaking of dreamers, the FA Cup first round is under way and there are plenty of televised games, including seventh-tier Banbury United v League Two Barrow (Sat, ITV4, 4.30pm), seventh-tier Stratford Town v League One Shrewsbury Town (Sun, ITV4, 2.30pm) and sixth-tier St Albans City v League Two Forest Green Rovers (Sun, BBC Two, 5pm). Pep Guardiola’s side visit Old Trafford on the back of a rare league defeat. However, the former United striker is still in last chance saloon and last week’s impressive 3-0 win at Spurs must be followed up by, at the very least, a decent showing against Manchester City. GTįootball: The Manchester Derby Sky Sports Main Event, 11.30am It has been a case of “one step forward and two steps back” for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the Norwegian certainly knows when to pull a result out of the bag. Deftly directed by Crook, it is family entertainment of the highest order. The ineffable charm of these stories lies in their absolute sincerity: a genuinely felt, gently administered belief in the value of the natural world, a nostalgia that never cloys and a grasp of rural life familiar from Detectorists.

Jones has a ball as each member of the village committee – butcher, baker, publican bearing an uncanny resemblance to Wetherspoon magnate Tim Martin – planning the celebrations for Bonfire Night.Įnter Worzel’s cousin, the irrepressible show-off Guy Forks (Paul Kaye), preparing for another spectacular performance. Following in the footsteps of Vanessa Redgrave and Michael Palin is Crook’s Detectorists co-star Toby Jones, taking on no fewer than six roles in the manner of Alec Guinness in Kind Hearts and Coronets.

Worzel Gummidge: Guy Forks BBC One, 5.45pm For anyone who has thus far missed Mackenzie Crook’s wonderful revival of the once-sinister childhood staple, or who has somehow remained immune to its charms, there is a surely irresistible prospect for tonight’s drama (with two others to follow over Christmas).
